Virtue Falters

by Ritual Howls

gaeruot Their best album to date. Complex arrangements with tons of layered synths, guitars, textures. The westerny twangy guitar gives a Gun Club vibe. Vocals complement everything with a deep baritone. Favorite track: Humiliation.

raeforr What a great, arresting album from such a consistent band. I'm digging this one more than the last and perhaps more than a few others in the discography as well. They've added so much texture via effects and changes that each song will command your attention. And can I just say that this LP (black/clear galaxy) is one of the best looking disc/packaging combos I've seen in a long time? - great job all who put this gem together! Favorite track: Dark Ceiling In Tennessee.

ghaseloff When I discovered Ritual Howls had a new album, I couldn't get it ordered fast enough! I was expecting great things from this one and Ritual Howls did not disappoint, delivering yet another masterpiece of an album. Favorite track: Tomb Room.

1.
Staring at the ceiling, My body vibrates To the rhythm of my heartbeat. Take me above the trees, To the top of the canopy. I’m waiting for my breathing— For the feeling I felt down in Tennessee. Show me some mercy, Can't you see I’m not the fool I used to be? The dark ceiling shines, Down from the mountain comes the night. The dark ceiling shines— A grand shadow to cast out the light, The dark will shine. Tell me a story—of how the night burned black And carried you to sleep. The dark ceiling shines, Down from the mountain comes the night. The dark ceiling shines— A grand shadow to cast out the light, The dark will shine.
2.
Clean my trash mind, You know it’s been sick It's been sick for some time. Clean my trash heart, You know it’s been sick It’s been sick from the start. I’m no good for me Clean my trash soul, It’s been gone awhile I’m trying to fill the hole. Where can I go to get away from me? Get away from me— I’m sick of thinking the same old thing. Where can I go? There’s nothing left for me. They took my eyes, They took my style, None of this was meant for me.
3.
Hey Caravaggio I’m out of my mind. It’s eating me up—from the inside. I’m out with Thomas again, He’s getting old. It’s always the same— A faith gone cold. So I’m asking you for a favor, An idea that I can call my own. Something worth the time that I kill In other people’s homes. Hey Caravaggio I’m out of my mind. You see I’m barely a shadow I lost myself long ago. So I’ve been taking what I need— What I need for the show.
4.
Humiliation 03:41
I gave you a willow basket to harvest your regret From a field of disappointment—to pay your debt. A river of cloth, A forest of sage, Tell me when you’re ready to leave this place. A curious smile from the night before Turns to laughter behind the door. Seraph sing your song of songs, You know this feeling won’t last forever. Asked me for a spell that will bring you to your knees, One that can give you a shadow you can see. Then you closed your eyes as the potion was made, I recall the romance, I recall the rain! A curious smile from the night before Turns to laughter behind the door. Seraph sing your song of songs, You know this feeling won’t last forever.
5.
Goodnight reason, It’s been nice having your clarity. It’s time for you to rest now, Your logic I no longer need. We turn to dust Goodnight reason, It’s been nice having your understanding. I’ve found a new conviction— Desire is all I need. We turn to dust
6.
Tomb Room 03:20
Walking past the tombs, I wonder if there’s room—for me? Can’t you see? It’s where I should be. Trading the sinners for Your trouble at the door. It’s comical to hear you scream, Your faith don't mean a thing. Virtue falters It’s no fault of yours. Let’s say goodbye in case I need—what I need, Can’t you see this is the end of me? It’s where I should be. Find the vein Of collective shame.
7.
A banquet of hemlock, The table is set for my sin. Surrender my body— A puppet of the charlatan. The director of my heartache, Bow and pray. The gambler of sorrow, He’s always holding the cards. Select the delusion Till you don’t know who you are. I kneel for instruction, To give what the dealer demands. The director of my heartache, You say, “Bow and pray.” The conductor of my heartbreak, Bow and pray.
8.
No choice in arrival, Only when to depart. Vacant as a dead hotel, Vacant as your heart. The dirt will kiss your back, Hold you in place. A glorious rhythm— The sound of spades. It’s getting quiet now, The comforting call of sleep. The hardest part Is deciding when to leave.

about

The Detroit trio’s fifth album is eight tracks of what we’ve come to expect from the always in form group – a cinematic blend of twangy industrial rock, metal, noise, baritone vocals, and macabre lyrics –but with an immediate urgency not yet seen from the band on past albums. It’s their most focused album to date.
